Amarbayasgalant monastery
Amarbayasgalant monastery is well worth visiting on the way to/from Khovsgol Lake, or other areas in northern or western Mongolia. Amarbayasgalant Monastery was built between 1727 and 1737 by the Manchu emperor Yongzheng, and dedicated to the great Mongolian Buddhist and sculptor Zanabazar, whose mummified body was moved here in 1779.
The monastery was largely spared during the 1937 purge, possibly because of sympathetic and procrastinating local military commanders. These days about 30 monks live in the monastery, compared with more than 2000 in 1936.
Khuvsgul Lake
Khuvsgul Lake is located in the northwest of Mongolia. Foot of the eastern Sayan Mountain It is 1,645 meters above sea level. 136 kilometers long and 262 meters deep. It is the second-most voluminous freshwater lake in Asia, The town of Khatgal is at the southern end of the lake. Location in northern Mongolia forms one part of the southern border of the great Siberian taiga forest, of which the dominant tree is the Siberian Larch (Larix sibirica),
The lake is surrounded by several mountain ranges. The highest mountain is the Monkh Saridag Mountains (3,492 meters which has peak north of the lake exactly on the Russian Mongolian border. The surface of the lake freezes over completely in winter.
Khuvsgul is one of seventeen ancient lakes in the world, being more than 2 million years old, and the most pristine (apart from lake vostok) as well as being the most significant drinking water reserve of Mongolia.
Terkhi white lake
Terkhi white lake was formed when volcano lava dammed the Suman River, cutting a large gorge through the basalt. It is an astonishingly beautiful lake, 20km long, 16km wide and 4 to 10 meters deep with an altitude of 2,060m above sea level. Khorgo Mountain is a dormant volcano located on the east Shore of White Lake. Khorgiin togoo is in the highest volcano crater in the Orkhon River Valley. From the summit of this basalt-covered mountain one has a splendid view over the whole region and the lake. The volcanic crater of the Togoo Uul is 200m wide and 100m deep.
Tsenkher Hot Springs
Tsenkher Hot Springs of Tsenkher Rashaan is located 25 km southwest from Tsenkher soum of Arkhangai province. This spring issues sweltering 65-90C water with stench of hydrogen sulfide. Since early times the spring had been used for medical use, as it is believed to have good influence for articulation, stomach, anemia, over fatigue, skin diseases and diabetes. Hot Spring of Tsenher Rashaan is surrounded by beautiful natural landscape, and it is an interesting tourist site of Arkhangai province.
Kharhorin
Khar Horin, which is the ancient capital city of Mongolia, was founded 1220 in the Orkhon valley, center of the empire for more than 140 years, destroyed in 1391 by Chinese troops. Erdene-Zuu monastery which is the first Buddhist center in Mongolia. Ogodei, son and successor of Chinggis, surrounded it by a rampart measuring approximately 1.7 km by 1 km; it was during this reign that Karakorum became a true urban, diplomatic, and commercial centre.
Erdenezuu Monastery
located North West of the imperial site of Kharkhorum, this monastery was built on the site of the ruins of the ancient Mongol capital which was the main center of Buddhism. At the present, 108 stupas are surrounding the monastery.
Erdenezuu and the vagaries of history: The construction of Erdenezuu began in the 16th century and continued until the middle of the 19th century. At the beginning of the 20th century, there were more than 600 temple halls and places of worship there, making it the most powerful of the Kalkh monasteries. But the Purges of the 1930s finished most of the temples and today only about 20 remain. What was left of the great monastic complex was turned into a museum in 1965 and Erdenezuu re-opened as a place of worship in 1990.
Orkhon Waterfall
Orkhon Waterfall is the main attraction of this region of Mongolia. Apart from the springs at Khujirt, the main attraction in the area is the Orkhon waterfall. The water fall is situated in the historically significant Orkhon Valley, whose river flows an incredible 1120km to the North before it joins the mighty Selenge Gol, the waterfall was formed by a unique combination of volcanic eruptions and earthquakes about 20,000 years ago. The fall is naturally most impressive after heavy rain.
Day1.
Pick up from the airport and drop off at the Hotel.
Day 2.
Trip starts at 9 AM.Drive to Amarbayasgalant Monastery.
Day 3
Drive to Hutag ondor.
Day 4.
We will drive to Khatgal and after rest we will prepare for the horse trip.
Day 5.
Start horse trip around Khovsgol Lake.
Day 6.
On this day, you will have a leisurely walk along the shores of the lake and the mountain.
Day 7.
After breakfast drive to Telmen sum and overnight there.
Day 8.
Drive to Ulaagchiinii khar nuur.
Day 9.
Drive to Terkhi white lake National Park, trekking and walking around the lake side and mountain.
Day 10.
Horse trip to Horgo-Uul volcano.
Day 11.
After breakfast drive to “Tsenkher” Hot springs and relax there.
Day 12.
We will drive to the “Orkhon Waterfall” and ride a horse for a short time.
Day 13.
We will drive to Khar Horin which is the ancient capital city of Mongolia. Visit Erdene zuu monastery.
Day 14.
Drive to Mongol sand dune (mini Gobi). Camel riding a short time.
Day 15.
After breakfast, drive to “Seven stars” camp which is located at Hui 7 hudag, and have dinner there. On this day we will sit in the sauna and relax after the long tour. Will see stars and the moon during the night.
Day 16.
After lunch, drive back to UB around 3 PM.
Day 17.
Ulaanbaatar city tour.
Day 18.
Pick up from the Hotel and drop off at the airport.
