Golden Eagle Festival: 30 th of September and 1st of October

Golden Eagle Festival – Every year Kazakh hunters from all over Bayan-Ulgii province gather in the heart of Altai Mountain to compete with their hunting Golden eagles based speed, agility, and accuracy of their magnificent birds. It is a rare opportunity for visitors to get a close-up Kazakh tradition and culture. The highlight of this fantastic trip is interacting with the Kazakhs and other ethnic groups and living with them for a couple of days to take part in the eagle training and get to know about the unique Kazakh culture.

Day 1.

Fly to Olgii. The flight takes 3 and a half hours. Upon arrival day capital of Mongolia’s western most province, region mostly inhabited by Kazakh nomads (90%) also Kirgiz, Tuvanian and Mongols. Spend first night in Kazakh family. Explore the local culture.

Day -2

Eagle hunting with local Kazakh man.

You will riding and hunting with eagle hunter. During your stay with eagle hunter’s family, you’ll follow him by horse to the neighboring mountains. Eagle hunters only hunts in winter month, when it is easy to spot the gold colored foxes against the snow. The hunter use his eagle hunting small animals such as fox, and rabbits. If you are lucky, you will see how the golden eagle catches its prey, and take many photos of all the action. Overnight accommodation with Kazakh family

Day 3.

To attend Golden Eagle Festival Day 1

After breakfast drive to Sagsai Soum. Drive around 60 km far from Ulgii city

17.00 -18.00 Camel racing, money grab contest

14.00 -17.00 Uriankhai Archery contest

20.00 -21.00 Theatre’s concert

Day 4.

Golden Eagle Festival Day 2

Eagle hunters from around regions gather to test their finely trained birds in singular contests of speed and agility in these few days.

10.00 -13.00 continue select best introduced Eagle and best trained eagle, camel racing and horse racing

13.00 -14.00 Break time

14.00 -16.00 Camel racing / continue / Kiz kuar contest , bottles dispute match /Kukbar/, khazakh play

17.00 – Closing Activities

After that you will drive back to Ulgii and overnight with Kazakh family

Day 5

After breakfast you will drive to the Ulgii airport with your guide and return flight to Ulaanbaatar
