Khuh lake, Terelj National Park
Blue Lake (Khukh Nuur)

This beautiful small lake as named Blue Lake (Khokh Nuur) is situated in Khan Khentii National Park and surrounded forested Mountains. The lake is involved with Chinggis Khan’s history, beginning in 1185, Temujin directed a military campaign to unite the Mongolian people, which at the time were divided into more than 80 ethnic clans. In 1189 at ‘Black Heart Blue Lake’ he was chosen by his peers to become king of all Mongols and was given the title “Chinggis (Genghis) Khaan.” A fresh watered Lake Khukh which consists of 2 lakes, linked underground, is located on south of Mount Khar zurkh 1675m above sea level.
The surrounding area of Khukh Nuur is quiet, peaceful and wonderful for hiking & relaxation.

Terelj National Park

You can see a beautiful view of landscape deservedly popular place. Elevation is 1600 meters above sea level one of the picturesque spot in the outskirts of Terelj Gorkhi. This area is rich in the terms of wild life. The alpine scenery is magnificent and there are great opportunities for hiking, rock climbing, skinning and horse riding. Also there is a big Turtle rock and can hiking there. “Ovoo “ shamanist offering, the cave that a number of monks lived, climb up to the Turtle rock, gallop open sky on the horse back and visit a real nomad family. Also you’ll visit to Tsonjin Boldog big “Chinggis Khaan’s” statue.

Chinggis Statue

The Genghis Khan statue is located in the town of Tsonjin Boldog, about 50 kilometers (30 miles) from the capital city of Ulaanbaatar. It is the tallest statue in Mongolia, and one of the tallest statues of a man in the world, at 40 meters (131 feet) tall. The statue is made of stainless steel and bronze, and it stands on a marble base. It was built in 2008, and it cost around $4 million. The statue was erected to commemorate the 800th anniversary of Genghis Khan’s birth.
The Genghis Khan statue is a symbol of Mongolian national pride. It is also a popular spot for locals and tourists alike to take photos and enjoy the view. Visitors can take a cable car to the top of the statue for a panoramic view of the surroundings. The chest and neck of the horse statue are the final stop for visitors, who have a 360-degree view from there. The main statue area will be surrounded by 200 Gers which will resemble the design of horse brand marks used by 13th century Mongoloid tribes. Visitors to the park can also go horse riding, and there are plenty of other activities to enjoy.
The park also contains a museum, which has exhibitions relating to the Bronze Age and Xiongnu archaeological cultures in Mongolia, which show every day utensils, belt buckles, knives, sacred animals, etc., and a second exhibition on the Great Khan period in the 13th and 14th centuries which has ancient tools, goldsmith subjects and some Nestorian crosses and rosaries.
That is why The Genghis Khan statue in Mongolia is a source of national pride and one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations.

Gorkhi Terelj National park

Gorkhi-Terelj National Park is located in the northern central part of of Mongolia not far from the border.  The national park covers an area of 1,127 square miles (2,920 sq km).  Although it extends across such a large area, it is only the 14th largest national park in Mongolia. The Terelj River flows across the park, which much of the protected zone located to the north of the river.  The Terelj settlement is located along the river and this region provides visitors with opportunities to shop and dine.  This tourist area also provides opportunities to rent horses or camels for doing a more adventurous exploration of the area.
Some of the attractions are challenging to experience because of their remoteness and the lack of park development.  The park sits at an average altitude of 5,249 feet (1,600 m), with Avkhan Mountain serving as the highest point at 8,740 feet (2,664 m).
The forested park is home to an abundance of wildlife with some of the most popular including brown bear, boar, red deer, roe deer, foxes, and wolves.  There are several types of predator bird species as well.
The national park also provides cultural and historical experiences with the Ariyabal Meditation Temple which was constructed between 1998 and 2004.  The design follows the shape of an elephant with the 108 staircase leading to the temple representing the elephant’s trunk.

Turtle rock

Turtle Rock is a surprising granitic formation, 24 metres (79 feet) high, whose form reminds of a turtle.
Located at the foothills of a mountain covered of pines, this rocky formation is incontestably a photo opportunity while you’re on the road for Terelj. There, it’s possible to rent horses, and during the summer, you can also find souvenirs’ sellers. It’s a good starting point for a small walk (about one hour) that will lead you until the center of meditation of Aryabal or in the most remote places of the park.

Day 1.

Trip to the Blue Lake “Khar Zurkhniy Khukh Nuur” /lake/ 168 km. On the way stop and visit to the Chinggis monument. Overnight at Khar Zurkhnii Khuh Nuur

Day 2.

Drive to Terelj National Park (90 km), where you will ride a Horse and Camel and go hiking around Turtle Rock. Overnight in Ger. Visit Aryabal temple.

Day 3.

Hiking through the Terelj National Park and after lunch return back to UB (78 km).
